Custom Product Boxes, Inserts, and Coordinated Packaging Built in San Diego
Your packaging is the first physical thing a customer touches. It has to look right, hold up in transit, fit the product, and where it matters, meet regulatory and labeling standards. We build packaging that does all of that, coordinated under one roof in San Diego.
We've Been Building Packaging
TPS Printing has produced custom packaging at our Sorrento Valley facility for more than 40 years. We started as a print shop. We grew into a full coordinated packaging operation because our biotech, pharmaceutical, and supplement customers needed boxes, inserts, labels, and IFU booklets to all match, all ship together, and all stay on revision.
Today our customers range from biotech companies a few blocks away from our shop to national health and beauty brands shipping DTC. We do small runs and large. We do single-SKU custom boxes and full coordinated packaging systems. From proof approval to final production, we work alongside your quality, regulatory, and brand teams to deliver packaging you can trust.
What We Produce
Custom Product Boxes

- Multiple paper weights, finishes, and structural styles
- Custom sizing built to fit the product, not the catalog
- Specialty treatments: foil, emboss, soft-touch, spot UV, window patching
Packaging Inserts

- Marketing inserts, dosage instructions, registration cards, thank-you cards
- Single-sheet, folded, and multi-panel formats
- Coordinated with the primary packaging so colors and stock match
Coordinated Packaging

- Boxes plus inserts plus labels plus IFU booklets, ordered together
- One project, one revision schedule, one point of contact
- Built specifically for regulated products where artwork has to stay in sync
Industries We Package For
Custom packaging looks different for every industry. Biotech needs cold-chain durability and IFU coordination. Cannabis brands need compliant labeling and shelf-ready presentation. DTC retail brands need unboxing impact. We produce for all of them, and we produce the full range of packaging components for any of them. The table below shows what customers in each industry most commonly order. It is a starting point, not a limit.
| Industry | Commonly ordered components |
|---|---|
| Biotech and life sciences | Boxes, inserts, IFU coordination, labels |
| Medical device | Compliant boxes, IFU booklets, labels |
| Pharmaceutical | Cartons, inserts, regulatory documentation |
| Health supplement | Bottle boxes, labels, supplement facts compliance |
| CBD and cannabis wellness | Branded packaging, retail display boxes, custom labels |
| Food and beverage | Folding cartons, sleeves, labels |
| Pet supplement | Bottle boxes, supplement facts labels |
If your packaging mix includes components not shown above, we produce those too. That might be specialty labels, shrink sleeves, retail-ready trays, or coordinated displays. Talk to us about it.
How We Build Packaging That Holds Up
Custom packaging is judged on five things: structural integrity, color accuracy, registration, finish quality, and consistency from run to run. Our production process is built around all five, and our equipment lineup is set up to deliver across that range.
Production Capabilities
- Offset and digital printing to suit large and small quantity orders
- In-house special finishing - foil stamping, lamination, spot UV & more
- Wide-format and flatbed UV printing for prototype and display packaging
- roll label and sheet label presses to meet all types of label & sticker needs
- G7-certified color management
- Custom die lines and structural design built in-house
Quality Control
- Pre-flight artwork review and file version verification
- Color checks against approved targets at every press start
- Press inspections at startup and throughout the production run
- Bindery and structural QC: fold alignment, registration, finish consistency
- Multiple inspection passes during finishing to catch pagination and registration errors before shipment, with extra attention on biotech, pharma, and medical device documentation
- Final QA before packaging and shipment
- Same QC process for a 100-piece run as a 50,000-piece run
Document Control
For projects with a single component to those with multiple components (a box plus an insert plus a label, for example), we manage the artwork versions across the board . When you approve a revision, we update every related file and keep records of all revisions for traceability. You don’t have to track it across multiple vendors.
Coordinated Packaging — Related Products We Produce
Most of our packaging customers need more than just a box. Here’s what we coordinate alongside the primary packaging:
- Custom Product Labels: bottle labels, product identification, regulatory labeling.
- Roll Labels: high-volume product labels for automated packaging lines.
- IFU Booklets: Instructions for Use, clinical reference manuals, regulatory inserts.
- Hang Tags: product hangtags for retail merchandising.
- Packaging Inserts: marketing inserts, registration cards, dosage instructions.
- Booklets and Catalogs: product catalogs and longer-form documentation.
When you order multiple components from us, we coordinate stock, color, finish, and revision schedule across all of them. One vendor, one revision train, one timeline.

Sustainability Is Built In, Not Bolted On
Sustainability isn’t a marketing line at TPS Printing. It’s a practice we’ve invested in continuously for more than 35 years.
What that means for packaging customers today
- Recycled paperboard stocks, FSC-certified materials, eco-friendly toner, and soy-based inks are standard options, not premium add-ons
- Solar power covering a meaningful share of our production: 60% renewable on sunny days, with excess fed back to the grid on weekends
- Comprehensive recycling for plates, paper, and packaging waste
- Direct-to-plate imaging that keeps silver-based films and harmful chemicals out of the production process
- Active FSC and G7 certifications
A few milestones along the way
- 1990: Transitioned to biodegradable soy-based inks
- 2000: Launched our recycling program for plates and paper scraps
- 2002: Switched to direct-to-plate imaging
- 2012: Installed solar panels
- 2014: Launched FSC and G7 certification programs
We continue to evaluate new sustainable materials and production methods as they come to market.
San Diego Local Delivery
Our shop sits in Sorrento Valley at 9906 Mesa Rim Road, in the middle of San Diego's biotech corridor. For local customers, that means same-day pickup, press checks in person, and hand-delivered urgent revisions. Many of our biotech customers swing by the shop on a Friday afternoon to pick up a packaging revision before a Monday product launch.
If you're in Sorrento Valley, Mira Mesa, La Jolla, UTC, Carmel Valley, or anywhere in greater San Diego County, local delivery is part of how we work with you.

Custom Packaging for Customers Outside San Diego
About half our packaging work ships to customers outside San Diego. Most of them have local print options. They send the work to us anyway. A few patterns repeat:
A senior team that has been printing regulated and consumer packaging for 40+ years. Manual QC that catches what commodity print portals miss. A single point of contact who knows the account, instead of a rotating queue. Coordinated multi-component packaging projects managed under one roof.
We produce and ship packaging nationwide, including for East Coast and international customers.
